Kayak Section Club Nights to Commence 21 May 2015

Dear TSC members,

It is with great delight that I can confirm that the registration for kayak coaching will take place on 21st May 2015, as already advertised.  The first six training sessions will take place on the subsequent Thursday evenings (presuming coach availability).  The cost for six lessons by qualified coaches will be £25 per person, with all of the money being put straight back in to the club.

The sub-committee has been working very hard in the background, preparing the kit, policies and procedures to get the kayak section training off to an effective start.  We aim to meet at the Clubhouse at 1830 hours on Thursday evenings, to be on the water by 1900 hours – with a departure time from the Clubhouse no later than 2100 hours.  Do look at the advice on what kit to bring on the TSC webpage under Kayaking.

The club is limited by the amount of kit and the number of volunteer coaches and leaders.  Thus, on the 21st we will endeavour to work out a plan depending upon the numbers that turn up, based on a first come first serve basis.  We hope to cater for adults and children; children over 10 are welcome to start, but should be accompanied by a parent or guardian (exceptions may apply – so please see one of the coaches).  We may have too much administration to get on the water, so will probably just talk through the plans, show off the new fleet and fit people to boats in preparation for the start of the training.  I shall bring along a boat, and if any kayakers with their own kit fancy a quick spin around the bay, they are welcome to join me (weather permitting!) after the admin is sorted.

In addition, the club is looking for experienced sea kayakers who are prepared to lead small groups of paddlers on club trips on Thursday evenings.  If you feel confident to lead other paddlers and perform rescues, volunteer to be a club leader by speaking to me soon – you do not necessarily need to be SCA/ BCU qualified, but will need to provide a paddling CV and perhaps demonstrate your leadership kit and rescue ability.

We will finally get out on the sea for the first time, launching some brand new boats!  I hope to see as many of you as possible next Thur.
