TSC Open Day 2016 / Quiz Night

TSC Open Day 2016TSC held its annual open day on Saturday 21 May 2016. The event was run as part of the South Cowal Community Festival 2016.

The morning started off with a fair amount of blue skies and sunshine after what had been some quite heavy rain overnight. The sight of the skull and crossbones and other pirate flags hoisted aloft confirmed to visitors that skulduggery had occurred and that the clubhouse was now under the control of scallywags and scurvy sea dogs. But it soon became evident that the swashbuckling crew on the premises were friendly and hospitable, even offering tea/coffee and cakes in the cafe that had been set up for the day.

Outside there were on-water taster sessions available for dinghy and keel boat sailing and sea kayaking, as well as trips in the club RIB. There was also an outdoor BBQ/burger stand. A steady stream of visitors arrived after the event opened at 11 am and all of the taster sessions were fully booked before 1 pm!

The heavens decided to open at around midday for a couple of hours including at least one rumble of thunder, but that didn’t seem to deter people from participating in the on-the-water activities. The weather did however guarantee a rather busy coffee shop full of landlubbers!

With the taster sessions being so popular, they ran sequentially each half hour between 1 pm and 3.30 pm with no let-up. We can report that many happy faces were seen after sampling the delights of each water based activity! By 2.00 pm the skies cleared again, the sun shone and winds died down for the last hour and a half of the afternoon, letting everyone dry out a bit.

After what had been a busy few hours on and off the water, proceedings concluded at around 3.30 pm, allowing a brief interlude before the evening’s event.

The evening saw the Curry and Quiz night which was very well attended. Excellent food and an entertaining quiz hosted by Admiral of the Pirate Fleet, Susan, brought to an end what was a very successful day for the club (and no, the losers were not made to walk the plank!).

Many thanks to all the TSC rapscallions who volunteered time to make this event happen, and thanks to everyone who turned up and participated in our open day. We hope to see you again!
