Current Club Status – Covid-19 (2021 Season)
For the current club status please see our club Covid status updates page linked here.
We will update this page with the club’s covid policy and related changes going forward.
Subject to government restrictions and advice from the RYA, SCA, and other relevant authorities we intend to have as full a season as is safely possible. Our first programmed activity is the traditional work party to clear the outside areas in preparation for the season’s activities. Subject to the owners wishes the keel boats will be launched in April.
As yet we have not received any guidance from the SCA as to club activities, other than paddle only as a single household or in a group of a maximum of 2 people from 2 separate households.
This is a talk which will definitely be of interest to TSC kayakers and sailors alike.
Andrew learned to sail, row, kayak and handle motor boats as a boy on Loch Lomond and the Clyde in the 1960s. He owns a Finnmaster 76CA motorboat but his prime love is kayak racing, something he has done for 50 years. He has seven British Master’s gold medals, and six World Master’s medals, including two golds, to his name. He was World Champion for the over-70s in 2016.
He’ll be jetting back from Brazil, where he’s been teaching Incident Investigation as part of a series of courses delivered in Birmingham, Rio, Aberdeen and Irvine, for Kelvin TOP-SET, especially to deliver this talk to TSC!
His talk will cover cruising the West Coast of Scotland and the Scilly Isles, kayaking and fitness and will be accompanied by photos and slides.
We hope you can join us!
There’s lots of exciting things happening at Toward Sailing Club over the next few weeks.
YOU COULD SAVE A LIFE!
Toward Sailing Club have purchased a defibrillator with the help of the British Heart Foundation. It is positioned on the outside of the clubhouse and could be a life saver in this relatively remote part of the South Cowal peninsula. We are running a FREE CPR and Defibrillator training session on Sunday 30th April 2.00 – 4.00pm in the Clubhouse which is open to everyone in the community. Dougie Whyte, recently retired paramedic, will be leading the training. Refreshments available.
TSC Fun Day/Open Day
Our next Community Event is our Pirate Family Fun Day on Saturday 13th May 11.00 – 3.30pm in association with the RYA annual Push the Boat Out promotion to encourage as many people as possible to try out water based sports. Anyone coming down that day will be able to sign up for taster sessions in dinghies, sea kayaks, keel boats and rib rides for FREE. Open water swimmers will be there to talk about their activities in the area. Don you pirate gear and join us for a fun day with a bouncy castle, crafts for the wee ones and time to enjoy the beautiful views over the bay to Bute.
Toward sailing Club are holding this in partnership with the Toward Memorial Hall who are having a table top sale at the same time. It’s all part of South Cowal Community Festival celebrating what we have to offer and enjoy in the area. Coast Coffee are catering with Chouxmake’s Cakes and an ice cream van will be there too. Follow us on Facebook and on this website as we may add other information on this event.

TSC held its annual tidy up day on 2nd April 2016. The slips had some thick layers of sand and seaweed to be removed this year. Achievements included getting the slips, jetty and dinghies ready for the start of the season. A big thank you to everyone who helped out!
