Racing
Situated as it is at the southern end of the Cowal Peninsula, Toward SC enjoys what is perhaps the best sailing water in the Clyde. Sheltered from the more extreme conditions, it nevertheless benefits from brisk but reasonably steady winds, not too much tidal influence and a large area of water, enabling good racing courses to be set.
Racing is organised twice a week in the season (May to September) on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
Everyone is welcome - from Optimist Dinghies up to thirty-odd foot keelboats.
The Oppies only race on Sundays and have their own class, but the rest
all race together under the PY handicap system. There are a number of "Special" races
during the season such as the "Round Cumbrae" and "Burnt
Isles Races" as well as a number of lighter-hearted Fun Races. A "Frostbite
Series" is held in October and early November for the more hardy
souls, open only to dinghies, but also welcoming visitors from other
Clubs in the area, or indeed out of the area.
The annual regatta, held over the first weekend in June, (31st May -1st June 2008), is open to all and attracts entries from keelboats and asymetric dinghies through to GP14s, Mirrors, Toppers and Oppies. Afterwards we celebrate with a Ceilidh evening in the Toward Memorial Hall next door to the club house.
